Earth Detail #2 by Jennifer W Mark
This is one in a series of acrylic paintings celebrating Nature and Earth. Earth is so much
more than its bottomless oceans and land masses that we commonly see on maps. A mountain is composed of tiny grains of earth. The ocean is made up of tiny droplets of water and a forest is made up of tiny plants and microscopic life. Our existence is and endless series of little details strung together with meaning. The beauty of this planet is best witnessed through its details and how they all interconnect.

Watermelon in Bend
This wonderful summery still life was painted while I was in Bend Oregon studying under the renowned watercolor artist, Mary White. I love the lost and found edges and the mixture of detail and suggestion in this piece.

InterPlantitary #3 Jennifer Winship Mark Acrylic on wood panel 12” x 12” $475
This piece was inspired from taking ordinary plants and fruits and tweaking them into a new and imaginary plant that looks like it could actually exist. This piece has a whimsical quality mixed with a little of the unexpected. This is the very first in a series of fantastical plant pieces. With many more to come.
Growing up I remember the Oregon Fruit can labels on the canned cherries we use to buy. They were rich and colorful illustrations floating on a black background. It was one the first ways I learned about Oregon and knew it was a special place. Every time I look at a beautiful fruit or flower on a black background I think of those magical cans.
Newlywed's Breakfast by Jennifer W Marki
This early piece was created during my Flemish oil painting phase. I chose melons and grapes because it was something I made for my husband every morning when we were first married. He complimented me on my beautiful presentation one morning so I fixed it every morning for a week. He finally got the nerve up to ask me to serve something else! I laugh every time I compose a special fruit plate with melons and grapes.
Oregon Grape by Jennifer W Mark
Experimenting with things I know. The Oregon grape had always grown along my road and captured my attention with its vibrant yellow flowers in the spring and its dust blue berries in the summer. The marbles came from my dad’s collection and the crystal ball always made its way around my home as decoration. I have several crystal balls and always find them to be magical and timeless. This piece was done at the old Oregon College of Arts and Crafts painting room during a class I took with Katherine Ace.

August Stillife #4 Gouache on paper 9"x9"
Jennifer Winship Mark
No glass with a decorative inset (collage) frame spacer
There is something about gathering flowers from your own garden and creating multiple arrangements from the same collection of flowers and greenery. Painting a still-life from the flowers I planted feels like a totally unique creative process that could only come from me and my relationship with nature .
This unique series painted in August of 2022 was my first experience in working with gouache. I loved the medium but came back later and added the vibrant acrylic washes to add more of a harmony and color vibration. I love the vibrant red Canna bloom along with the purple hydrangea I gathered from the many plants growing along my shady driveway. There is something vibrant and alive about this piece but also calming with the window side light and the simple drinking glass vase.
Before the Heatwave 24"x24" oil on silver leaf
There is something etherial about a silver background that changes with the lighting. The delicacy of the foliage and flowers against the reflective almost industrial background give a sense of vast expanses. By painting the flowers with more “air” around them helps me appreciate the delicacy and unique lines of each plant. These pieces have a contemporary feel yet would look amazing in a traditional setting.
